Nyoongar Art Trail
The Fremantle Markets has marked this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations with a Nyoongar Art Trail featuring traditional iconography, travel lines, campsites and wildlife. The work leads visitors on a 130-metre journey through the Yard and has been designed by renowned Aboriginal artists Deborah Coertse Newenham and Neta Knapp, who take their inspiration from the land and living creatures.
As a NAIDOC Week event, the aim of the Trail is to recognise the important connection between Aboriginal people and the land, and to celebrate and acknowledge their traditional culture. The unique artwork opened at the Fremantle Markets on in July 2015 and will be on display for six months.
Iconography reference charts for the Art Trail are available from True Blue Gallery. This year’s NAIDOC theme is “We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate”.
